About Eportfolios...
What are eportfolios?
The eportfolio of a Mohawk graduate will be a curated collection of digital artefacts that demonstrates the graduate's abilities to communicate effectively, to collaborate productively, to think critically when solving challenging problems and to participate meaningfully in college, community, and global initiatives. Artefacts that will be included in each graduate’s eportfolio will include:
· graded assessments from their program of study;
· evaluations of their experiential learning opportunities;
· reflections by students on their learning;
· and, a record of their time and contributions to college, community, and global organizations.
An eportfolio equips our graduates with a digital record that showcases their learning and competencies – an invaluable tool in their futuready toolbox.
Why are we adopting eportfolios at Mohawk?
This year (2013), the Mohawk College Board of Governors adopted a set of Institutional Learning Outcomes. In the future Mohawk College wants our students to graduate as capable communicators, collaborators, critical thinkers, who are capable of becoming both lifelong learners and responsible citizens. After adopting these five institutional learning outcomes, Vice President, Academic Cheryl Jensen was assigned the goal of developing an implementation strategy by March 2014 for providing each Mohawk student with an eportfolio to store artefacts demonstrating their skills as communicators, collaborators, critical thinkers, lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
How are we using eportfolios?
Our plan is to begin an institutional enrollment slowly with a goal of 30% of our students using eportfolios by March 31st – that way, we can explore and assess the best way for our students to leverage this valuable tool. An Academic Plan Project Team is exploring the use of eportfolios as course assessment tools and developing resources to support the implementation during the winter of 2014. Consider joining this exciting initiative – please let a member of the Eportfolio Project Team know if you are interested in exploring this opportunity for our students:
